Rick started his career working for the City of Boston and the President's Office of the Boston Public School Committee, David Finnegan. Soon after, he entered the private sector, working many years in the hardware and software SLED vertical (State Local Education), some of the companies included, Wang Lab, Sun, Oracle, Informatica, Symantec. Rick placed the first computer system used in the Massachusetts Governor's office of then, Governor Michael Dukakis who later ran for President using the "Massachusetts Miracle" which took the state reeling from the collapse of its traditional manufacturing base and turned Massachusetts into a booming high-technology economic model for the rest of the country, paving the way for other state officials in Massachusetts to embrace technology. Shortly after, all statewide offices embraced technology with computers in Attorney General Frank Bellotti's office, Secretary of State Michael Connelly's office, State Auditor John Finnegan's office and the Massachusetts Senate.  

Other successful projects that Rick was part of included, the NYPD Real Time Crime Center (as seen on 60 Minutes), FDNY Arson Investigation Modernization project, NYNJPA Property Leasing Modernization Project, Florida Turnpike Enterprise, Sunpass Prepaid Toll Program, Mass Dept of Education MCAS Reporting Modernization and Availability Project, MASSPORT Modernization Project for Runway Safety Conditions and Boston Police Department's 911 Data Analysis Project.
